Nothing about us without uS 2023
Applications for a Digital Intern for the Summer/Fall 2023 session will be opening soon. This position will pay $400.00 a month for the duration of the internship.
The Nothing About Us Without Us Internship program engages folks in the opportunity to be a part of community organizing from a political campaign standpoint. As interns, you are exposed to a variety of topics, tactics, and strategies that move our work - while also being able to share your own tactics and lenses. Interns may be asked to talk with community members, activists, organizers, and professionals, witnessing for themselves how House District 88 works - especially in the time of a pandemic.
It is important to note: This internship is completely separate from our Oklahoma House of Representatives internship opportunity. If that is what you are looking for click here to be redirected.
The Nothing About Us Without Us Internship program provides a first-hand experience with all aspects of running a campaign during a pandemic. Highlighting the importance of awareness and involvement around the issue of community engagement when you can and cannot be physically present with one another.
There are 2 internship periods: Winter/Spring, and Summer/Fall. Interns will often be asked to work evenings and weekends and commit at least 10 hours a week to interning. One hour being a weekly planning session with the campaign team.
Our community-focused internships are geared towards developing practical skills and research capability through hands-on experience and 1:1 work with their direct supervisor. Interns will explore various civil liberties issues while learning effective methods of civic engagement, developing communication skills, and voter outreach and education.
Community needs are continuously growing and changing, so the way we show up for the work will have to grow and change, too.
This internship will be a place where we can all learn together about how we effectively achieve this for our communities. Upon completion of the internship program, the interns meet with your supervisor for an exit interview to provide the Mauree Turner for House District 88 campaign with feedback for future program improvement. As opportunities are available, interns may be able to apply for another internship.
Interns develop content design skills, website management skills, organizational skills, and an understanding of teamwork through their participation in the program. There are a lot of valuable skills that can be transferred between political campaigns, and issue-based campaigns - as well as work beyond these. Voter Activation Network (VAN) knowledge is one of those skills. This will provide you with valuable skills to make you an asset when it comes to political organizing.
